Modern Arab Distribution Company employs over 450 persons and has a large fleet of delivery vehicles (dry and cold) as well as storage facilities of over 24,000 m2 throughout the Jordanian Kingdom. Among the many products that they distribute are Barilla, Maxims, Caf Najjar, Kelloggs, Kraft, Afia Oil, and Unilever.
Nader Group decided to construct a new state of the art distribution center in Al-Qastal area for its FMCG business and wanted to make sure that their design was based on the best practices in the field, ensuring maximum capacity utilization with the highest efficiency. To achieve this end, they contacted SNS to benefit from their expertise in Warehousing Operations.
The site survey and data collection enabled SNS to assist in optimizing the operational layout of the distribution center. Inbound and Outbound dock requirements were each reduced from 8 to 6 implying eliminating unnecessary construction costs. Based on their expertise in FMCG operation, SNS resources were able to identify the need to replace some of the VNA storage system with Standard Selective aisles to ensure speed-up the picking operation for the fastest moving items. In addition, SNS recommended the utilization of certain dead zones to add additional racking accounting for a five year growth plan. Finally, based data analysis also allowed the SNS team to calculate the optimal size of the staging area keeping in mind that this one of the most critical elements in warehouse operations.
