May 03, 2014

Johannesburg, SA, May 2014- SNS, a leading provider of supply chain consultancies and solutions, and Softworx, Infor partner in Sub-Saharan Africa, are proud to announce the go-live of the Infor Warehouse Management (SCE) solution at NGK Spark Plugs SA facilities, the largest producers and suppliers of Spark Plugs and Shock Absorbers in South Africa.

About the Project

Johannesburg, SA, May 2014- SNS, a leading provider of supply chain consultancies and solutions, and Softworx, Infor partner in Sub-Saharan Africa, are proud to announce the go-live of the Infor Warehouse Management (SCE) solution at NGK Spark Plugs SA facilities, the largest producers and suppliers of Spark Plugs and Shock Absorbers in South Africa.

With a wide range of spark plugs produced and customers including OE market, P&A market and Aftermarket, NGK have a lot riding on their distribution center. In order to better respond to their customer’s needs, NGK selected SNS partnering with Softworx to implement the Infor SCE at their 5000 SQM warehouse located in Johannesburg.

The ability of Infor SCE solution to easily capture Batch Numbers at time of receiving was critical to the proper rotation of inventory in the warehouse, its traceability and the reduction of obsolete stock. With the aid of a native wireless solution, all data are captured in the warehouse in real-time minimizing data entry errors and provide live visibility on operations. The Infor SCE was integrated with BAAN IV ERP using Infor ION middleware to ensure full data synchronization. Neil Cormack, Director: New Business at Softworx, added that “by using Infor’s ION middleware platform we have moved away from point-to-point integration and the integration will no longer be an inhibitor when NGK considers upgrading either the Infor Baan ERP environment or the Infor SCE solution”.

"SNS consultants demonstrated utmost professionalism and dedication during the implementation of the WMS Solution,” said Giles Palmer, technical manager at NGK Spark Plugs SA. ”Their unique blend of operational and technical expertise was truly an added value for the project.”

"We are pleased to go-live with another renowned producer as NGK in South Africa”, said Mohamad Obaidah, Director of Services at SNS.”Once again, this is but a clear evidence that we are leaders in implementation of warehouse solutions in the region”.

NGK are the world leader makers of spark plugs for virtually every automotive, motorcycle, marine and small engine application.

Starting with a single product in 1936, NGK's extraordinary growth can be attributed to a philosophy of manufacturing the product where it is going to be used. In fact, a substantial number of NGK Spark Plugs and oxygen sensors sold in the United States are made right here in America. One of the benefits of this approach is the ability to work closely with manufacturers in developing products tailored specifically to their needs. The most tangible manifestations of the success of this philosophy have been the construction of fourteen factories in eight nations throughout the world, as well as NGK Spark Plugs being specified as original equipment by the majority of the world's auto manufacturers.
